Summer is here!

"Summertime, and the livin' is easy..." Somehow these lyrics always evoke the essence of summer to me. It's traditionally a time of resting between planting and harvest, a time to slow down, soak in the light of longer days, play in the swimming hole, read that novel. When I was a child, I used to think that summer lasted as long as winter. I was shocked to discover that summer was actually so much shorter. That speaks to the elasticity of time. When there's less to do it seems like time expands. As an adult, I have nostalgia for those times. Certainly summers were slower in 1934 when Heyward and Gershwin wrote those lyrics. These days we are all rushing to get somewhere, untied to the rhythms of earth. Where did the long days of summer go? Let's grab ahold of summer moments and make some memories.💚🌼💚
